“9 to 5” is based on the 1980 movie of the same name, and features music and lyrics by Dolly Parton. It centers on the downtrodden working lives of three women, Violet, Judy, and Doralee. They all work at Consolidated Industries, which is presided over by the sexist, lecherous, and pompous, Franklin Hart. Although the women are from completely different backgrounds and experiences, they bond over their working conditions and their mutual dislike for their problems with the boss. After a series of hilarious situations occur (including poisoning, kidnapping and tying up the boss), Violet, Judy and Doralee turn the tables on Hart, and the entire company ends the show with another round of 9 to 5 in the happy knowledge that things may be changing for the better. A hilarious musical comedy that speaks to audiences in 2019 as well as it did in 1980.
