As a non-profit arts organization, Lubbock Community Theatre relies on unique and attractive print marketing to generate interest in our season productions. As a part of our new marketing campaigns, we enlisted the help of two very talented professionals to design and create the posters and postcards for each of this season's shows.
Shannon Adams (Senior Graphic Designer) and Kevin Jones (3D Animator and Illustrator) are both members of the Communications & Development team at the Texas Tech University Libraries. Together they produced a visually unified campaign through the use of a rich, toned-down color palette and original “digital paintings”. Each poster's artwork was created in Adobe Photoshop CS5 using custom paintbrushes, and drawn on a Wacom pen tablet. The painterly style was used to carry through the nostalgic “Made in America” theme for this year's season, while cleverly summarizing the theme of each play.
Kevin says “As the title of the play suggests, each of these women are both soft and strong. Each magnolia is used to represent one of the characters.”
Shannon notes “The typical imagery used for this show is very religious, but we wanted to focus more on capturing the humor and family-oriented themes of the show.”
Kevin states “The premise of the show is tragic and sad, but it's end outcomes are about hope and goodness. That's what the stars and lights of Laramie represent.”
Shannon observes “The Peanuts characters are easy to recognize, but we wanted to make sure people knew this show was a musical. So Schroeder and Snoopy dancing were a perfect fit.”
Kevin says “The painting of Harvey and Elwood mentioned in the play inspired the style of the entire series. It was actually quite difficult to make a realistic looking 6-foot rabbit that wasn't creepy!”
